Online seminar: Legumes as disease-preventing foods

Many of DiverIMPACTS’ case studies are focusing on diversifying farmland by an increased production and consumption of grain legumes. Next to diversification, other reasons for more use of legumes are their low climate impact and high resource efficiency. Moreover, when eaten regularly, dried legumes exert beneficial effects on human health and qualify therefore as functional foods.

Cardiometabolic diseases represent a huge global health issue. Cardiometabolic diseases include cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke, angina (chest pain) and other disorders of the vascular system), plus others, such as insulin resistance, diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

This online seminar will deal with the potential protective power of legumes against cardiometabolic diseases.
